You
Runway 27, cleared to land, VKA

This is an illustrative example. The required elements matter more than the exact words — ICAO phraseology allows variation, and local procedures can differ.

Required information

  • Runway
  • CLEARED TO LAND
  • Call sign

Expected sequence

  1. Runway
  2. Cleared to land
  3. Call sign

Read back

  • Runway
  • Landing clearance
Why it works this way

Clearances to land on a runway are mandatory read-back items. If you are not cleared to land by a safe point, ask or go around.

Common errors
  • Omitting the runway
  • Reading back the wind instead of the clearance
